Learning English and Armenian Language is a peculiar piece of software developed by Armenian Dictionary Software Inc. We say that because it’s difficult to categorize. Maybe the nearest categorization would be that of a picture dictionary, but it’s also a talking dictionary and you could even use it as a translator. Let’s see why we say this. Learning English and Armenian Language follows the same criterion of all the application produced by Armenian Dictionary Software Inc., the extreme simplicity. The application develops entirely in a single window where you can find everything you need. This learning tool is organized as it was a picture gallery, which pictures are categorized into groups or subjects. On the left side there are two columns of groups’ buttons you can select to work with. The groups included are the following: • Alphabets. • Fruits. • Animals. • Numbers. • Home. • Jobs. • Opposites. • Vegetables. • Colors. • Foods. • Clothes. • Phrases. The center of the window is where the pictures displays and you can read the object’s name in Armenian above and in English below. One left and one right arrow are located below that allow you to change the picture. If you want to automate the picture changing you can use the slideshow option, by hitting the correct button on the right side toolbar. In this same toolbar there are two buttons to get the program to pronounce the words: One button to hear the word in Armenian, and another to hear the word in English. So what this application proposes is to learn words by reading how they are wrote, by looking at an object’s picture to associate with visual memory, and by hearing how are they pronounced correctly. The only thing there’s left is the Setting button which allows you to access a settings dialog where you can configure two parameters: the delay time for slideshow mode, and the sequence direction: forward, reverse, and random. Learning English and Armenian Language is designed to run on Windows based systems only. It runs almost in every version of Windows though (32 bits versions only).
