Signal Circuit is a physics simulation model that deals with switches. In this particular simulation, there is a closed circuit that has a power source (a battery), a light and a switch, all of them connected by electrical wiring. Electrons flow from the battery to the wires and to each of the devices I just mentioned. The electrons are represented by blue spheres. By using a sliding bar at the bottom of the screen, you can either activate or deactivate the switch. By deactivating it, you sort of lift a part of the wiring and terminate the loop. In doing that, electrons can't complete the circuit, and, thus, no current makes it to the load, in this case the lamp. That is precisely how an electrical switch works in real life. It makes it impossible for electricity to get where it needs to be by disconnecting the power source from the load. This simulation doesn't really let you create the circuit, but it does a great job of illustrating what happens inside circuits with electrical switches. It was made with Java, so any Java-capable web browser or operating system can run it. No installation is necessary.
