WinX Free AVI to WMV Converter is a free video converter. It can produce video files in two variations of the Windows Media Video (WMV) format. This format is the standard Windows video format and it is the original format of some video players and video game consoles. For example, the Xbox 360 played WMV files since the start. This tool will open only AVI files as an input. Since it is a free video converter, you won't see any superfluous features. The application can convert a single file or lots of files at a time. The conversion settings are basic, but you can still change settings around to optimize the conversion of files. For example, if you are converting a file for playback on the Zune, you can change the resolution of the file that you opened to anything you want. You can also change the aspect ratio, the video frame rate, and the quality. Settings can also be changed for the audio part of the file. In my testing, I did a quick conversion from AVI to WMV2. The process took less than 20 seconds and the resulting file was identical to the AVI file. It played quite well on Windows Media Player.
