AbiWord is a multilingual, open-source, and multiplatform word processor. Although the user interface appearance and the features offered by this program resemble very much those of Microsoft Word, this program has its own particularities. Among these, a nice one is the possibility to view the names of the fonts next to their graphic representations, so we can view all of them without the need to open them individually. We may also install plug-ins, and use the direct access to Google, Wikipedia, and other online resources, although this feature did not work while I was writing my review. This utility enables us to create/import a document with/out the help of the templates, edit it, save it as TEXT, HTML, DOC, etc. We may also import writing/paragraph styles (or create our own one), insert symbols, files, images, tables, merge fields, find-and-replace, check spell, view the numbers of words, share the document, preview and print it, and much more. The language of the user interface can be switched into many languages. The online help guide is available in English, French, and Polish. In addition, this program can run under Windows, Macintosh, or Linux. And more important, this word processor is delivered completely free of charge with all the advantages of being an open source.
