Astro Avenger II is the second edition of this game. The story beneath this game is the following: The human race stood unchallenged in its supremacy over the borders of the galaxy. That has changed three weeks ago when some weird beings emerged from unexplored space. Their attack was violent. It became obvious that their only aim was to bring terror and death to the human world. Having recovered from the unexpected attack, people endeavored to resist the invaders in spite of the unequal forces. Scientists began to develop a top-secret weapon that would operate on plasma extracted from dead aliens. They have almost succeed but the aliens occupied the scientific stations. The situation is hopeless. The human race is doomed. There’s only one way to salvation: find the parts of the secret weapon and assemble it to finally destroy the source of alien waste… Well, pretty unbelievable isn’t it? But that’s the story of this game and your mission is exactly the final line of it: to find the parts and assemble the weapon. How do you do that? Let’s see. You basically are in a flying ship killing aliens on enemy ships, all over the place. You will be controlling the ship with your mouse, being able to move in all directions. You can fire regular ammunitions (laser) and rockets. If you click your left mouse button, you fire regular ammunitions. With your right mouse button you fire rockets. You have different kinds of lasers and rockets. To switch between laser types you press the “x” key, and to switch between rocket types you press “z” key. You start the game with four lives, full level of power, and full level of armor. Every time you got hit by the enemies, you lose some armor level. If you run out of armor, you lose a life. When you destroy enemy ships you increase the level of plasma, required to create the top-secret weapon. Also, some enemy ships leave some bonuses when they are hit, that you have to collect in order to use their powers. When you enter the game, an awesome video introduction is shown. Maybe too much for the game. After that, you’re asked for a player name and reach the Main Menu, with the following options: -Change Player: the first time there’s no existing player. After you create one or more, they’ll be saved. When you enter into this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different players and record their performance. This way, you can play home tournaments with family and friends. - Play: this option leads you to the first level. You’ll be shown the instructions first, which you can skip at any time. - Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like: sound effects volume, music volume, mute all, resolution, refresh rate, render shadows, controls, and full screen. - Help: it shows a single screen help to learn playing the game. - High scores and Quit: no further explanation required. Once you are playing, you can press the ESC button on your keyboard to pause the game. You can try this game for 60 minutes before you buy the licensed version.
